News: 6 Qualities of Successful ESL Teachers

"While the numbers of ESL learners in English-speaking countries is vastly increasing, the numbers of qualified ESL teachers is not meeting this growing demand.
Despite “formal” qualifications and ESL specific training, what skills are most important to make a difference for these students? As a regular classroom teacher and ESL teacher in several ESL programs both here in the US and abroad for over three decades, I wanted to share with you a few insights. You will not be surprised.  Most of these qualities are what make good teachers no matter what subject or population of learners being taught."

German: MIA - Tanz der Moleküle (song)

Here is Christina again with another fantastic German song:
"Tanz der Moleküle" ("Dance of the Molecules") by MIA.

There are many good reasons to like the band MIA - and their beautiful lead singer Mieze is definitely one of them!

Tanz Der Moleküle

Ich bin hier, weil ich hier hingehöre.
Von Kopf bis Fuß bin ich verliebt.
Du bist mutig,
Weil du mir Treue schwörst.
Zwischen all den schönen Souvenirs.

Sprich mich an, in dem Takt.
Der dieses Lied zu unserem Hit macht.
Brich den Beat mit Gefühl.
Du bist so schön, weil du lachst.

Uhuhuhuhuhu, mein Herz tanzt.
Uhuhu und jedes Molekül bewegt sich.

Glaubst du wie ich daran,
dass alles gut sein kann.
Solange wir zusammen sind.
Brich das Eis, mit dem Schritt,
der jedes Atmen zum Wagnis macht.
Halt mich fest, mit Gefühl.
Es ist so schön, wenn du lachst.

.....und jedes Positron entlädt sich.
Uhuhu und jede Faser
biegt und dreht sich.

Mein Herz tanzt...
Dance of the molecules

I am here, because I belong here.
From head to toe I am in love.
You are brave,
Because you swear to be true to me.
Among all the beautiful souvenirs,

Talk to me in time with the beat,
Which makes this song our song,
Take up the beat with feeling.
You are so beautiful because you laugh.

Uhuhuhuhuhu, my heart is dancing.
Uhuhu and every molecule sways itself.

Do you believe as I,
that everything can be good,
as long as we are together?
Break the ice, with the step,
which makes each breath the adventure.
Hold me tight, with feeling.
It is so nice, when you laugh.

... and every positron discharges itself
And every fiber
bends and turns itself.

My heart is dancing…

German: Word of the Week - der Liegestuhl

Here is Christina with your German word of the week!

This week:
der Liegestuhl  /  the deck chair

Liegestuhl literally translates into English as "lying chair" but the correct translation is "deck chair" (or "sunbed" in British English). It is a folding chair meant for leisure, usually with a frame of treated wood or other material. Abroad on vacation, Germans like to put their towels on a "Liegestuhl" to reserve it - a habit which is not always looked upon well by fellow tourists from other nations.

Here are some examples of how you can use this word:

Ich habe uns zwei Liegestühle reserviert. / I reserved two deck chairs for us.
Liegestühle sind sehr bequem. / Deck chairs are very comfortable.
Alle Liegestühle sind besetzt. / All deck chairs are taken.
Die Liegstühle stehen beim Pool. / The deck are at to the pool.
Ich liege in der Sonne auf meinem Liegestuhl. / I am lying in the sun on my deck chair.
