German: Die Deutsche Sprache (Video) - Lustig!

Hallo alle. Today I have a hilarious video to share with fellow German teachers and learners from 7 Sekunden Videos called Die Deutsche Sprache. You will quickly see how rapidly German nouns can expand with multiple compound parts. The words in question also become a tongue twister or Zungenbrecher in German. Enjoy!

German: Ich + Ich – Vom selben Stern (song)

Here is Christina with another German song!

This time a beautiful German song by a beautiful German singer:
"Vom selben Stern" ("From the Same Star") by Ich + Ich

Vom selben Stern

Steh auf, zieh dich an
Jetzt sind andre Geister dran
Ich nehm' den Schmerz von dir,
ich nehm' den Schmerz von dir
Fenster auf, Musik ganz laut
Das letzte Eis ist aufgetaut
Ich nehm' den Schmerz von dir,
ich nehm' den Schmerz von dir

Wir alle sind aus Sternenstaub
In unseren Augen warmer Glanz
Wir sind noch immer nicht zerbrochen,
wir sind ganz
Du bist vom selben Stern
Ich kann deinen Herzschlag hör'n
Du bist vom selben Stern
Wie ich (wie ich – wie ich)
Weil dich die gleiche Stimme lenkt
Und du am gleichen Faden hängst
Weil du das Selbe denkst
Wie ich (wie ich - wie ich)

Tanz durch dein Zimmer, heb mal ab
Tanz durch die Strassen
Tanz durch die Stadt
Ich nehm' den Schmerz von dir,
ich nehm' den Schmerz von dir
Lass uns zusammen

uns're Bahnen zieh'n
Wir fliegen heute noch über Berlin
Ich nehm' den Schmerz von dir,
ich nehm' den Schmerz von dir

Wir alle sind aus Sternenstaub
In unseren Augen warmer Glanz
Wir sind noch immer nicht zerbrochen,
wir sind ganz
Du bist vom selben Stern
Ich kann deinen Herzschlag hör'n
Du bist vom selben Stern
Wie ich (wie ich - wie ich)
Weil dich die gleiche Stimme lenkt
Und du am gleichen Faden hängst
Weil du das Selbe denkst
Wie ich (wie ich – wie ich)

Ich nehm' den Schmerz von dir...
ich nehm' den Schmerz von dir

Du bist vom selben Stern
Ich kann deinen Herzschlag hör'n
Du bist vom selben Stern
Like me (like me – like me)
Weil dich die gleiche Stimme lenkt
Und du am gleichen Faden hängst
Weil du das Selbe denkst
Like me (like me – like me)

From the same star

Get up, get dressed
Now other spirits have their turn
I’ll take your pain away,
I’ll take your pain away
Window open, music real loud
The last ice has melted
I'll take your pain away,
I'll take your pain away

We’re all made of star dust
In our eyes a warm sparkle
We’re still not shattered,
we’re whole
You’re from the same star
I can hear your heartbeat
You’re from the same star
Like me (like me – like me)
Because the same voice guides you
And you’re hanging by the same thread
Because you think the same thing
Like me (like me – like me)

Dance through your room, take off
Dance through the streets
Dance through the city
I’ll take your pain away,
I’ll take your pain away
Let’s orbit

together
We’re still flying over Berlin today
I’ll take your pain away,
I’ll take your pain away

We’re all made of star dust
In our eyes a warm sparkle
We’re still not shattered,
we’re whole
You’re from the same star
I can hear your heartbeat
You’re from the same star
Like me (like me – like me)
Because the same voice guides you
And you’re hanging by the same thread
Because you think the same thing
Like me (like me – like me)

I’ll take your pain away...
I'll take your pain away

You’re from the same star
I can hear your heartbeat
You’re from the same star
Like me (like me – like me)
Because the same voice guides you
And you’re hanging by the same thread
Because you think the same thing
Like me (like me – like me)

German: Word of the Week - der Fasching

Here is Christina with your German word of the week!

This week:
der Fasching / the carnival

Fasching is the German word for carnival. There are many regional differences concerning the  duration, and activities of the carnival in the German-speaking countries of Germany, Switzerland and Austria. In Cologne, where the festivities are the most elaborate, the official beginning is marked on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of the year, i.e. on the 11th of November at 11:11am, and Fasching ends on Ash Wednesday.

Here are some examples of how you can use this word:

Ich liebe Fasching! / I love carnival!
Fasching ist die 5. Jahreszeit in Deutschland. / Carnival is the 5th season in Germany.
Ich feiere Fasching mit meinen Freunden. /  I celebrate carnival with my friends.
Fasching mach viele Spaß! / Carnival is a lot of fun!
Im Fasching kannst du viele verschiedene Kostüme sehen. / During carnival, you can see many different costumes.

A high-school English teacher in Maine, Dan Ryder, is using Twitter to connect with fellow educators and exchange resources and ideas. While the trend is increasingly popular around the world, Rydernotes it has been slow to take hold in Maine.

Ryder said he is a fan of Twitter meet-ups, especially #dtk12chat, in which teachers share ways to use design thinking in classroom lessons.

German: Culcha Candela – Hamma (song)

Here is Christina with another fun German song!
 "Hamma" by Culcha Candela.

Hamma

Du bist hamma,
wie Du dich bewegst in dei’m Outfit, hamma!
Einzigartig. Unglaublich. Hamma.

Einzigartig. Unglaublich. Hamma.
Du weißt, dass Du übertrieben hamma bist.
Warum bist du nicht geblieben?

Ich find’s hamma,
dass Du nicht so viel Scheiße laberst
wie die Ander’n,
die sich auf den Partys
immer nur an mein Arsch klammern
und sich dann mit Cocktails
das Leben süß schlabbern.
Du bist irgendwie anders.

Du bist einfach: H - A, doppel M - E - R: Hammer yeah …
Außer dir und Mama gibt es keine mehr. Komm mal näher.
Ma chère, noch viel viel näher
wegen dir werd’ ich Tier,
Tiger, hin und her.

Du bist hamma.
Du bist kaum gestyled und
versprühst trotzdem Glamour,
hab’ dich nur einmal angesehen,
schon hat’s bei mir gedämmert.
Viel zu viele Jahre
hab ich ohne dich schon verpennert:
ditt wird jetzt geändert, Du!

Bist Miss sweety Cutie, hast ‘n dicken booty,

Right.

Denn ja Du bist der hamma
und den will ich mal schwingen.
So wie du mich anmachst
kann ich dir nicht widerstehen,
wie wärs wenn wir woanders
so’n kleines Dingen drehen?
Und wat da so bei rauskommt,
ja dat werden wa ma sehn.

Denn allet wat wa wolln
is’n kleines bisschen Spaß und
komm’ wa da ins Rollen
geb’n wa gleich n bisschen Gas.
Da gehn wa in die Vollen,
denn wir sind ja nicht aus Glas,
also komm’ vorbei Girl,
sonst hast Du was verpasst.

Awesome

You are awesome,
the way you move in this outfit, awesome!
One of a kind, unbelievable. Awesome.
You know that you're exaggeratedly awesome
Why didn't you stay?

I look over at you and you stand at the bar with glass of champagne in your hand,
wonderful
I had to look at you, approach you,
you don't fit into any rating,
too beautiful, yes
I'll fight way through to you,
because I know I only want to get to you
But when I arrived, you and your champagne - oh sh*t - you were already gone

You are awesome,
the way you move in this outfit, awesome!
One of a kind, unbelievable. Awesome.
You know that you're exaggeratedly awesome
Why didn't you stay?

I find it awesome
that you're not talking so much rubbish
as the others
Who on a party
would always cling to my a**
And then drink
their lives sweet with cocktails
You are different somehow

You are simply: H - A, double M - E - R: Hammer (awesome) yeah ...
Beside you and mum there's no other,
come closer
My sweetheart, a lot closer,
because of you I'll turn a beast,
tiger, from one side to the other

You're awesome.
You're hardly styled and
still you are spreading glamour
I've look at you just once,
and I already recognized it
I've already missed
too many years without you
And that'll be changed now, you!

You're a sweet cutie, you have a big booty
I'll take you for dinner, I'll invite you,
introduce you to my mum
You're a mixture of student and ghetto
I sing your name pretty Proschedo.

You are awesome,
the way you move in your outfit, awesome!
One of a kind, unbelievable. Awesome.
You know that you're exaggeratedly awesome
Why didn't you stay?

You are awesome,
the way you move in this outfit, awesome!
One of a kind, unbelievable. Awesome.
You know that you're exaggeratedly awesome
Why didn't you stay?

You're awesome
You're awesome, yeah
You're awesome, yeah, whooo…
The way you look at me
I know you are awesome, mama,
awesome, mama!
You're awesome, awesome, awesome, yeah.
You know you're awesome, mama,
awesome, mama!
The way you look at me

I'll call your number again,
because the night was too short for me
I just come to steal your time,
our night was far too short
We could just be together
and look at each other
And maybe we'll close the door
and then the real thing will start. Right.

Don't care, you are awesome
and I want to swing this thing
Because the way you turn me on
I can't resist you
What about us
getting together somewhere else
And we'll see
what happens then

Because everything we want
is a little bit of fun and
And if we get started
we'll accelerate a little more right away
Then we'll go crazy
because we're not made of glass
So come along girl,
otherwise you have missed something
