German: Doch

Help master the use of DOCH with this handy guide from Deutsche Welle:

DOCH

DOCH kommt als Adverb, als Partikel und als Konjunktion vor. Wir haben hier nur die wichtigsten Verwendungen aufgeführt, um euch nicht völlig zu verwirren. wink emoticon

a) DOCH als ADVERB

Sei DOCH bitte so nett.

c) DOCH als KONJUNKTION = drückt im Nebensatz etw. aus, das im Gegensatz zum Hauptsatz steht

German: Word Order With Adverbs

Start mastering word order in German, specifically the placement of adverbs with this explanation from Deutsche Welle:

Für die Stellung von Adverbien im Satz gibt es keine festen Regeln.

Normalerweise stehen sie aber im Hauptsatz (Aussagesatz) HINTER DEM FINITEN VERB (a) oder AM SATZANFANG (b).

Beispiel:
a) Ich war GESTERN sehr müde.
b) GESTERN war ich sehr müde.

a) Ich mache IMMER etwas falsch.
b) IMMER mache ich etwas falsch.

a) Ich komme GERNE zu dir.

Akkusativobjekt:

Sie hat IMMER ihre Tasche dabei. - Sie hat ihre Tasche IMMER dabei.
Aber nur: Sie hat sie IMMER dabei.

Sie trifft ihren Bruder HEUTE ABEND - Sie trifft HEUTE ABEND ihren Bruder.
Aber nur: Sie trifft ihn HEUTE ABEND.

Dativobjekt:

Er hilft seinem Vater MORGEN. - Er hilft MORGEN seinem Vater.
Aber nur: Er hilft ihm MORGEN.
