Job Description: The Department of Modern Languages, Literatures, and Cultures (MLLC) invites applications for a tenure-track position as Assistant Professor in German Studies and Film beginning September 1, 2015. We are particularly interested in individuals with a specialization in German and Central European cinema who unite inquiry into formal questions with a nuanced sense of the social context in which films are produced and consumed, and who are well-versed in the literatures and cultural traditions of Germany and Central Europe from an interdisciplinary and/or comparative perspective. Ability to teach courses in other European film traditions a plus. In addition to teaching survey courses and advanced seminars on film, literature, and culture, and contributing to an interdepartmental program in Cinema Studies, the candidate should be able to supervise and teach in a growing German language program. Typical teaching load is two courses per semester; candidates are expected to be productive scholars with active research agendas that will attract extramural research funding. Requirements: Applicants must have native or near-native fluency in German, Ph.D. in hand at the time of appointment, and a demonstrated commitment to excellence in innovative undergraduate teaching. Additional Information: UMass Boston provides equal employment opportunities (EEO) to all employees and applicants for employment. Application Instructions: Interested candidates should submit a cover letter including a statement of research interests and teaching philosophy, CV, and evidence of undergraduate teaching excellence online, as well as contact information for three letters of recommendation. Application review will begin December 20th and continue until position is filled. , ,
