Chris here again with your language learning news. Today I would like to share a cool article I came across that French teachers and learners will like. Guillaume Desbiens, a player from the American Hockey League's Chicago Wolves, recently visited Waubonsie Valley High School in Aurora, Ill., to engage in a Q&A session with students in French. The visit was part of the National Hockey League's (NHL's) outreach program.
A Quebec native, Desbien fielded questions in front of an audience of about 130 students, giving them a chance to practice their language skills. "At first I was intimidated by him speaking French, but then it was cool to be around someone who fluently speaks it," sophomore Layne Thresh said.
You can read more about Desbien's visit via the article linked below:

This visit brings up an interesting point for language programs/classes/teachers. How beneficial would such visits be and would it be possible to work in classroom visits by native speakers? It goes without saying that having a celebrity or pro athlete who speaks whichever language you are teaching come to visit is highly unlikely. Nevertheless, this could be a great avenue to pursue for language programs in this time of budget crises. Comments welcome!
