APPOINTMENT: August 21, 2014
RESPONSIBILITIES: The successful candidate will have teaching responsibilities for both the Department of Women's Studies and the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures. The candidate will advance towards tenure in either the Department of Women's Studies or the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures, depending on the discipline from which the degree is earned, qualifications, and research interests. The decision regarding the tenuring department will be made in consultation with the successful candidate prior to the beginning of the first contract. Faculty generally teach three courses a semester, with opportunities to teach during the summer terms based on a rotating schedule among faculty. The successful candidate will be responsible for helping develop humanities courses in the area of his or her specialty for the Department of Women's Studies. The candidate will work with the department chair of Foreign Languages and Literatures for the scheduling of courses in that department. Faculty are expected to maintain an active research agenda and to help direct student research. Additionally, faculty contribute to the functions of the departments and university through various service activities.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. in Women's Studies, German Studies, or a related field from the humanities. Ph.D. must be awarded by appointment date. Candidates must be able to teach courses in Women's Studies at the undergraduate and graduate level, including Introduction to Women's Studies, theory courses, and other courses that fall in the area of gender studies. Candidate must also possess native or near-native proficiency in German and be willing and able to teach German language, literature, and culture at all levels of the undergraduate curriculum. Candidates must have a demonstrated record of teaching excellence and innovation, an active research agenda that intersects Women's Studies and German Studies, and a willingness to teach occasional online courses.

THE DEPARTMENT: The Department of Women's Studies offers an undergraduate major and minor and a post-baccaulaureate certificate. In addition to the current advertised position, the department is comprised of 3 faculty members, including the department chair, and a staff member. As of Fall 2014, the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures will offer a major in Foreign Languages and Cultures with options in French, German, and Spanish; minors in French, German, and Spanish; and introductory/intermediate courses in Japanese and Chinese. The department has eleven faculty members, including a department chair, and a staff member.

Macomb is located approximately 75 miles from the Quad Cities International Airport (Moline, IL) and 70 miles from the Greater Peoria Regional Airport (Peoria, IL).
WIU-Quad Cities (Student Population: 1,204): The only public university in the Quad Cities area, WIU-QC offers select undergraduate and graduate programs, including a doctorate in education, at its metropolitan, non-residential campuses in Moline, IL (population 44,000). The Quad Cities (population 376,000) rests on the banks of the Mississippi River and is comprised of Moline and Rock Island in western Illinois and Davenport and Bettendorf in eastern Iowa. Moline, Illinois is home to the Quad Cities International Airport.
