# Web Announcement **Associate Professor of German** The George Mason University Department of Modern and Classical Languages invites applicants for the position of Associate Professor of German with a specialization in 18th and 19th century literature and culture beginning in the Fall 2016 (August). **Qualifications:** The position calls for native or near native fluency in German and English. Ability to teach another Germanic language, such as Swedish, Danish or Dutch is a plus. Additional expertise in another field, preferably word and music studies or sound studies, is strongly desired. University-level teaching experience and experience in interdisciplinary collaborative work essential. **Responsibilities:** Duties include two courses per semester, program review and innovation, student advising, and outreach. Faculty members in the Department of Modern and Classical Languages engage in teaching, research and service; and participate in a variety of interdisciplinary programs on-campus and schools, such as Cultural Studies, Women and Gender Studies, Film and Media Studies, the College of Visual and Performing Arts, and the Honors College. The department offers a minor in German, as well as minors in Arabic, Chinese, Classical Studies, French, Italian Studies, Japanese Studies, Latin, Russian and Spanish; B.A. in Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Eurasian Studies, and Spanish; and M.A. in French and Spanish. The department also offers instruction in Farsi, Hebrew, Korean, Portuguese and Turkish.
