The teaching load is five courses per year in German and in English at all levels of instruction, including core courses and topics’ courses in the candidate's area(s) of research. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated record of strong teaching at the undergraduate level and experience mentoring students who are broadly diverse with regard to race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, gender, nationality, sexual orientation, and religion.
A demonstrated background in European studies with a concentration in one or more of the following areas is strongly preferred: film and media studies, film history, digital humanities, postcolonial studies, or migration studies. Participation in departmental activities and collaboration with colleagues in film and media studies are expected. Proven teaching excellence in German and English, as well as native or near-native fluency in both languages required. Completed Ph.D. preferred.
Applications must be made online at https://jobs.mtholyoke.edu/. Candidates will submit a cover letter, CV, sample syllabi, and three statements concerning (1) teaching philosophy, (2) research interests, and (3) a statement about mentoring a diverse student body. Applicants should also arrange to have three letters of reference submitted on their behalf. We recommend early submission because electronic prompts to referees will be generated automatically (and letters of reference accepted) only after the completed application has been submitted. Applications will be read beginning February 29, 2016 and accepted until the position is filled. Please contact Professor Karen Remmler, at kremmler@mtholyoke.edu with any questions.
