German program:
- solid enrollments, 4 levels
- School-sponsored ISE ten-day home stay and travel program to
Baden-Wuerttemberg and Bavaria including 3 days in Munich every other year.
Next trip - March 2013. Successful candidate can travel as one of the
sponsors with costs covered by program and school district.
Extra-standard pay from district for teacher(s) organizing and administering
program.
- Honors Academy Dual Credit Program for level three (101) and level four
(102) through Nebraska Wesleyan University
- AATG membership dues paid by district
- National German Exam administered annually
- A current senior German student scored at the 90+ percentile on the most
recent National German Exam and was selected to represent Nebraska on the
AATG/PAD Summer Study Trip to Germany in June and July 2012. Another HHS
German student received the same Summer Study Trip to Germany award in 2010.
- 1-to-1 computer initiative providing each student with a MacBook Air
laptop is being rolled out from now through end of semester.
- Textbook adoption process will run semester two. Successful candidate can
select all new materials, with particular focus on Online programs.
- Hastings High School currently undergoing a 3+ million dollar school
expansion and renovation project.
- Very supportive administration (materials, workshops, conferences, etc.)
- Up-to-date methods and materials, progressive foreign language department
- Regular placement of German students in Rotary International and/or
Congress-Bundestag student exchange programs. One each in 2011-2012.
- Community with a strong German heritage - very supportive of German
language education
- The opening has resulted from the reassignment of the current German
teacher to another position within district.
- Professional development and continuing education opportunities are
available locally through Hastings College, Central Community College,
ESU#9 and elsewhere in the Tri-Cities at the University of Nebraska at
Kearney, College Park in Grand Island and ESU#10.
- Hastings is a progressive community of 25,000 with a vibrant economy
located 90 miles west of Lincoln and 15 miles south of I-80. It is part of
the Tri-Cities that include Kearney and Grand Island.
