The Department of German at the University of California, Berkeley, seeks applications for a full-time Assistant Professor in Modern German Literature 1750-present for an expected start date of July 1, 2015. Basic qualifications: Applicants must, at a minimum, be in the process of completing a doctoral dissertation or the equivalent at the time of application.
Additional qualifications: Applicants must have near-native fluency in English and German, demonstrated excellence in teaching at the college level, a well-defined, cutting-edge research program beyond the dissertation, and the ability to frame their work in the broader context of the humanities.
The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. (or equivalent) in German Studies or a related field by the time of employment.
Letter of application, updated curriculum vitae, three letters of recommendation, teaching statement, research statement, and one writing sample (maximum of 25 pages) are required of all applicants; a statement addressing past and/or potential contributions to diversity through research, teaching, and/or service is optional.
