Technology: Media Specialists as Teacher Resources

From SmartBrief:

Media specialists should be the "go to" person for incorporating technology and research skills aligned with the Common Core State Standards into classroom lessons, Maryland middle-school teacher Josh Work writes. In this blog post, he describes how he has collaborated with media specialists on blending technology and offers ideas, such as forming professional learning communities with the media specialist, for sharing ideas. "Media specialists are an amazing building-level resource for anyone that takes the time to collaborate with them," he writes.

Technology: Using Smartphones in the Classroom

From SmartBrief:

Students in some schools in California are finding more leniency when it comes to using their smartphones in the classroom. In some cases, educators use mobile applications to remind students about assignments, and students use their phones to take photos of lecture notes and reading passages. "There are so many whiz-bang things they can do on their phone, but I want them to realize that they can use this computer in their pocket to do their schoolwork," teacher Louise Colbert said.

Technology: Using Blogs to Enhance Learning

From SmartBrief:
Denise Howell, an Indiana high-school teacher, is using blogs to enhance learning and test preparedness in her English and speech classes. In some cases, students use blogs as a type of journal, she recently explained to school board members, and to share assignments. Students also connect and discuss classwork online.

Ed-Tech: Teachers and Teaching Technology Skills

From SmartBrief:

Not all students enter the classroom with the technology skills they need to succeed, writes educator Renee Moore. In this blog post, she writes that it is her "moral duty" to teach those who are new to technology. German: Alexander Knappe – Weil ich wieder zu Hause bin (song)

Here is Christina with another German song!

This time:
"Weil ich wieder zu Hause bin" ("Because I'm Back Home Again") by the singer Alexander Knappe, who became famous in the German TV show X-Factor.

Hier will ich bleiben.

Hier will ich bleiben.
Hier will ich sein.
Weil ich zu Hause bin,
Weil ich zu Hause bin,
Weil ich zu Hause bin,
Weil ich wieder zu Hause bin,
Weil ich wieder zu Hause bin,
Weil ich wieder zu Hause bin,
Zu Hause bin.
Because I’m Back Home Again

I’m stuck running in my thoughts.
I wander through the wet grass.
I’ve drowned in the red sky.
There’s the tree that I always sat on.

I stop time
And breathe it in.
Here’s where I want to stay.
Here’s where I want to be.
Because I am home,
Because I am home,
Because I am home,
Because I am back home again,
Because I am back home again,
Because I am back home again,
At home.

These are my streets.
I let them talk,
The first love that got lost in the sand.
Where are all the lost souls,
Scattered somewhere in nowhere?

I stop time
And breathe it in.
Here’s where I want to stay.
Here’s where I want to be.
Because I am home,
Because I am home,
Because I am home,
Because I am back home again,
Because I am back home again,
Because I am back home again,
At home.

Ed-Tech: Social Media and Engaging Students and Teachers

From SmartBrief:

In this blog post, educator Naphtali Hoff writes about his optimism for the future of education -- in part, because of the influence of social media. Some teachers already are using social media to engage students, interact with each other and access new, exciting resources, he notes. "Social media has brought educators together virtually, giving us a deeper connection to the educational world in which we operate," Hoff adds.

Ed-Tech: SXSWedu speakers discuss evolution of education technology

From Smart Brief:

Education leaders just a few years ago were asking why they should adopt technology-supported instruction. Now, districts are asking how they can reach their tech goals, according to speakers at the SXSWedu Conference & Festival. "You start with 'Yes.' You don't start with, 'How do we pay for this?' or 'What device do we use?' The landscape is replete with the carnage of failed deployments," said Gregory Firn, deputy superintendent of academics in a Texas school district.

For example, people have become accustomed to getting media, videos and more on demand, he writes in this blog post. Ed-Tech: Technology helping Texas educators personalize lessons

One-to-one technology initiatives among some Texas school districts are giving students more individualized approaches to learning. The digital devices -- ranging from laptops, smartphones and tablets -- allow one seventh-grade science teacher to incorporate current events in class, provide students with online resources to prepare for competitions and have more choices in how they complete projects. Spring Break Alternative Choices

Hello everyone, Claudia Sadowski here. As we approach Spring Break in many places throughout the United States, most instructors in college are witnesses to the plans students have for such week. It is not surprising to hear that a large amount of students favor warm and sunny places like Cancun, México. Cancun it really is a gorgeous place, nevertheless, it is only one choice of the unending number of choices students and visitors in general could consider to spend the week of Spring Break.
If your favorite destination for Spring Break is México, I am here to share with you that in the Aztec country, there are many, many places to visit. For example, if you like to see pyramids, you could visit Teotihuacán, la ciudad de los dioses (The city of the gods).  Teotihuacán was established around 100BC. It has been considered one of the biggest cities of the ancient world. Sources share that in Teotihuacán, had up to 150,000 inhabitants at its highest point.  For quick and interesting facts about this city, you could visit: http://www.ancient-code.com/17-facts-about-teotihuacan/

If you have preferences for the colonial ambience and some cowboy-like natural movie sets, you could visit the state of Durango, México.  UNESCO has declared Durango a World Heritage Site. Durango is known as The Perl of Guadiana, it is located in the north part of México. Durango has also been called La Tierra del Cine (the Land of the Film) in México. In this city, many cowboy movies have been filmed. John Wayne participated in and produced many of these movies! Currently, tourists can take a tour in at least a couple of movie (natural) sets.  At least one of the movie sets has active participation of the audience as they reenact a typical scene of a cowboy movie. Prices to tour these places are accessible to students and public in general.
The actual capital city Durango, Durango, México, has breathtaking colonial architecture. Many building resemble baroque influence, ornate balconies, actually many buildings look like medieval theaters! Many buildings were dedicated to convents during the XVI century.  Some of those former convents serve now as public offices and others are high-end restaurants as well as private schools.
The state of Durango is the place of birth of many famous and talented people such as composers Ricardo Castro and Silvestre Revueltas, opera singer Fanny Anitua, and actress Marlene Favela. Durango was the home state of the famous Pancho Villa. The first president of México Guadalupe Victoria was born in Durango as well. As you can see, in these few of the many examples you could find, Durango has a strong historical background. For more information about Durango, México you can visit: http://www.history.com/topics/mexico/durango

Even though, I have only provided two examples of the never-ending opportunities to visit other parts of México, I encourage you to go beyond the usual places you normally would visit. México is a magical country that it is rich in culture, folklore, color, delicious cuisine, various sounds and breathtaking natural landscapes to the standards of every taste and budget. When you decide to visit México, think about going beyond the norm, I can guarantee that you will be gladly surprised! For more information about México: http://www.visitmexico.com/
