Reading Strategies Workshop - September 7, 2012 - Phoenix, AZ
This interactive workshop will bring reading in the FL classroom to life! Learn how to implement guided reading, how to keep the process fresh and how to turn any type of reading into a fun and successful educational experience! Discover how to use novels as a base for your curricula and how to use reader's theater to increase comprehension and engagement. Carol will share specific strategies to help make all types of text more comprehensible, more engaging, and more likely to result in language acquisition. Carol Gaab - Presenter

Language Teacher's Toolbox Workshop 3-3-12

Chris here with some exciting news for Indiana language teachers. Several of our staff will be running a workshop this spring! Check below for details and registration information!

This one day workshop focuses on the creation of a forum for the exchange of ideas and expertise among all language instructors. Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in several sessions for their specific language as well as general sessions. Each session will be interactive with attendees being exposed to a wide variety of teaching strategies, tips, games, and activities. Attendees will also leave with a wealth of material including a DVD containing hundreds of activities for a variety of languages. This is a great opportunity for new and experienced teachers alike to refresh their teaching skills to learn some new tricks!

Reminder: Japanese Assessment Sumer Institute




The deadline for application form submissions is January 31, 2012.

Applicant Eligibility: Faculty members and Ph.D. students who are engaged in Japanese language education at postsecondary institutions are eligible to apply. Fluency in Japanese and English is required. Participants are expected to participate in sessions in English and Japanese and present their classroom assessment tool construction projects in English toward the end of the workshop. If the participants are faculty or staff at U.S. institutions, travel stipends of up to $1000 may be provided.

Assesments for Japanese Language Instruction Summer Institute


This workshop is intended for postsecondary Japanese language educators who feel they have had limited training and experience in assessment (including testing), but want to improve Japanese language assessment practices in their home institutions. If this is your situation, we encourage you to apply!

Mobile learning, cloud technology, building an engaged digital classroom, and application of computational linguistic research.

Travel Subsidies & Scholarships:

Accepted & registered presenters will receive a conference travel subsidy of $100-$150, and graduate student presenters will receive $200 travel scholarships, subject to funding availability. More details will be forthcoming.

News: Southeast TESOL Regional Conference 2010


TESOL educators from seven SE states will gather Thursday-Saturday, September 23-25, at the Hilton Miami Downtown for presentations on second langauge teaching. Keynotes will include Kate Kinsella and Neil Anderson among others. The SETESOL conference includes over 200 sessions and workshops, publisher exhibits, and a special technology strand; plenary sessions with cutting edge discipline leaders; a complimentary reception and optional South Beach/Biscayne Bay evening outings.
