German: Krampus

For fellow German teachers and learners:

Were you naughty or nice? Did you receive coal or or sweets in your shoes this morning?

Krampus is a beast-like creature from the folklore of Alpine countries thought to punish bad children during the Christmas season. This stands in contrast with Saint Nicholas, who rewards nice ones with gifts. Krampus is said to capture particularly naughty children in his sack and carry them away to his lair.

Hello all, Chris here. It has been a bit since our last update. The end of the semester is always a busy time. Now that it is over with, let's get back on track with some new content.

Here is a fun video about the Krampuslauf in Munich. The video provides some background information and one can see some of the holiday festivities and decorations in the city. On the language front, students get to hear the Bavarian dialect. Enjoy!
