The Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures at Appalachian State University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of assistant professor in Modern Standard Arabic. Ph.D. by date of appointment preferred. ABD will be considered. The ideal candidate is expected to have native or near-native fluency in Arabic and English, to have experience teaching Modern Standard Arabic, and to be committed to building an Arabic program that collaborates with other units on campus. Ability to integrate technology in teaching is highly desirable. The 3/3 teaching load is likely to include one course per semester in literature in translation, linguistics or global studies depending on the applicants area of expertise.
The Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures has nineteen tenure-track faculty members and 14 adjunct instructors. The department offers an M.A. in Romance Languages, undergraduate majors in French and Spanish, 7 undergraduate minors (Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Russian, Spanish, TESL, and two years of instruction in Arabic, Latin, and Portuguese.
