German: Using Sauerkraut

Hi all, here is a post I came across a few days ago on using sauerkraut. Cooking recipes provide a fun mix of culture and grammar (imperative - following directions). With a little effort these types of activities can be of use in the classroom setting. The sauerkraut article below if from Transparent Language blog:

Here is Christina with another great German song!
This time: "Ich lass für Dich das Licht an" ("I'll leave the light on for you") by the German rock band Revolverheld.

Here are the lyrics in German with an English translation:

Deutsch

English Translation

I’ll leave the light on for you

When we head home at night
Our lips blue from red wine
And we both share my big jacket
Up to the corner ahead.
The sky is already red from the sunrise
But you don’t want to sleep yet.
I grab our old bikes
And we ride to the harbor.

I’ll leave the light on for you,
Even though it’s too bright for me.
I’ll listen to records with you
that I don’t like.
I’m quiet for you,
when you‘re too loud.
Run to the corner store for you,
Day or night.
I’ll leave the light on for you,
Even though it’s too bright for me.
I’ll go see bands
That I don’t like.
I’ll go with you

to see the worst tear-jerkers
It doesn’t matter to me.
The main thing is: you are there.

I would immediately burn my
Favorite records for you.
And if it’s important to you,
I‘ll hitchhike to Barcelona.
The morning air is much too cold
And I’m slowly getting hoarse.
I see only you with tunnel vision
And the city is slowly getting quieter.

I’ll leave the light on for you,
Even though it’s too bright for me.
I’ll listen to records with you
that I don’t like.
I’m quiet for you,
when you‘re too loud.
Run to the corner store for you,
Day or night.
I’ll leave the light on for you,
Even though it’s too bright for me.
I’ll go see bands
That I don’t like.
I’ll go with you to see the worst tear-jerkers
It doesn’t matter to me.
The main thing is: you are there.

When we head home at night
Our lips blue from red wine
And we both share my big jacket
Up to the corner ahead.

German: Madsen - Lass die Liebe regieren (song)

Here is Christina with another German song!
This time: "Lass die Liebe regieren" ("Let Love Reign") by Madsen.

Here are the lyrics in German with an English translation:

Lass die Liebe regieren

Deutsch

Weil du erinnerst,
weil du vergisst,
weil du verzeihen kannst

und bist wie du bist,
weil du vermisst
und weil du fehlst,
weil du zuhörst und erzählst,
weil dein Herz laut schlägt
und die Welt sich immer weiter dreht,
weil du fällst

und immer wieder aufstehst,
merkst du, dass es dich gibt.

Weil du liebst, weil du lebst,
weil du gibst und vergibst,
weil du liebst, weil du lebst,
weil du glühst und vergisst,
wirst du geliebt, lass es passieren,
lass die Liebe regieren.

Weil du weißt, woher du kommst,
was du gegeben hast und genommen,

Let Love Reign

English Translation

Because you remember,
because you forget,
Because you can forgive

and are who you are,
Because you miss

and because you’re missed,
Because you listen and talk,
Because your heart beats loud
and the world keeps on turning,
Because you fall

and always get up again,
you notice that you exist.

Because you love, because you live,
because you give and forgive,
because you love, because you live,
because you glow and forget,
you are loved, let it happen,
let love reign.

Because you know where you’re from,
what you’ve given and taken,
because pure hate is sad after awhile
and life has a lot more to offer,
because we fight with ourselves

and because we need each other,
because we help each other

and believe in us,
because true friendship exists.

Because you love, because you live,
because you give and forgive,
because you love, because you live,
because you glow and forget,
you are loved, let it happen,
let love reign.

Because you love, because you live,
because there’s only one you,
because you love, because you live,
because you give and forgive,
because you love, because you live,
because you glow and forget,
you are loved, let it happen,
let love reign.
