Education Program Specialist, Georgia Department of Education, Atlanta, GA
Under limited supervision, provides statewide leadership and coordination for instructional programs in the development and coordination of international agreements (e.g. Memoranda of Understanding) and linguistic and cultural exchanges; dual language immersion program development, support, and assessment including, collaborating with colleges and universities to support programs for qualified dual language teachers; support of initiatives to support world languages teachers; and managing federal grants. Specific duties include, but are not limited to, providing leadership and coordination in the development and administration of statewide language and international education programs; coordination of CTAE integration into coursework development; providing planning and consultative services to local schools; identification of professional needs; developing appropriate dual language and immersion training materials and methods; creating and managing a statewide advisory committee comprised of stakeholders representing the entire state; managing grants (federal, foundation, or other); assessing status of program implementation, documenting results, and recommending changes and improvements based on research and evaluation data; coordinating the development of assigned Georgia Performance Standards, particularly as this relates to new standards supporting world language programs for career and technical education pathways; and supporting curriculum and instruction initiatives, activities, and programs. Extensive travel may be required.
Minimum Qualifications: Master’s degree in education, education administration, a foreign language field, or a related field and three (3) years of experience in a professional education capacity in K-12 foreign language education. Must have strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) and strong interpersonal and communication skills. Georgia teaching certification in a foreign language field is required. Must hold Georgia Professional Standards Commission educator certification. Must submit a copy of the required certification with resume or application.
Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to applicants who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, possess one or more of the following: Advanced-low or higher proficiency in German; Education Specialist or higher degree; Five or more years of experience in a professional education capacity in foreign language; Experience in foreign language, digital or CTAE curriculum development; Experience in teaching staff development courses in foreign language; Experience in a leadership capacity related in foreign language; Knowledge of Georgia Professional Standards Commission teacher certification regulations; Experience in writing, developing, and managing grants; Active involvement in professional organizations including the Foreign Language Association of Georgia; Strong presentation skills.
